At St Mary’s, we have a high quality History curriculum that supports pupils to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. We intend to stimulate children’s curiosity to know more about the past with a developing chronological awareness through a range of topics, which are informed by the National Curriculum and use a wide range of subject-specific vocabulary.

Our history curriculum is well planned and structured to ensure that children can link their current learning to previous learning and understand the connections to different time periods and different role models throughout history. We ensure that key concepts are presented repeatedly, in a developmental way, throughout children’s learning at St Mary’s. We equip children with the ability to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence and sift arguments to develop perspective and judgement. 

Our history curriculum at St Mary’s ensures children understand the process of change, diverse societies and relationships between different groups. We use a range of practical experiences to bring history to life for the children to create an exciting and enjoyable curriculum.
