Our Art curriculum ensures that core knowledge and skills are revisited and built upon as pupils progress through the primary years. This guarantees systematic progression and mastery across four key threads of learning ensuring comprehensive coverage of drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art, craft, and design techniques through its four interconnected strands.

Throughout the curriculum children will develop creative thinking, research, and planning. This can be done through a range of mediums such as observations, imagination, design briefs and research. Skills are developed through practical exploration and refinement of techniques and media. Children are able to study an array of diverse artist, craft makers and designers. Throughout the primary phase, critical thinking and use of appropriate technical vocabulary to discuss art.

Our Art curriculum is specifically designed to broaden pupils' experiences and understanding of the world, thereby enhancing their cultural capital: such as
introducing children to a diverse array of artists, craftspeople, and designers from global cultures, different historical periods, and varied backgrounds. By exploring diverse art, pupils learn how art and design reflect and shape society, history, and different communities. This provides context for the history they learn in other subjects and promotes tolerance and global awareness. The explicit teaching of technical equips children with the language needed to discuss and engage with art and design in formal settings, giving them confidence in future educational and cultural environments.
