As a Catholic school, we dedicate 10% of our teaching time to Religious Education; this is seperate from times of prayer and collective worship, such as assemblies liturgies and class prayers which happen in addition to the taught RE curriculum. This means that 2.5 hours each week are dedicated to teaching Religious Education. This time is spent immersing ourselves in scripture, parables and connecting with our faith.

We follow the Religious Education Directory (RED) "To Know You More Clearly" which fulfils the requirements set out by the Bishop's Conference for all Catholic Schools in England and Wales. Religious Education at St. Mary's moves beyond the traditional curriculum. We encourage students to explore their faith through a lens of curiosity and introspection. Through engaging lessons, thoughtful reflections, and interactive activities, our classrooms are learning environments that encourage students to connect with their spirituality on a personal level, cultivating a genuine and enduring relationship with God. This contributes to the overall spiritual development of each of our children.

At the heart of the RED is scripture, which serves as a foundation for building knowledge, understanding, practical skills, empathy and a sense of awe and wonder throughout the curriculum. 

As a school, we explore other world religions so that our children are able to develop an appreciation for faith in the wider sense and are both respectful and appreciative of the religious beliefs, practices and observances of others. This supports children in becoming responsible, constructive members of the multi-cultural, multi-faith society in which we live.
